Chicago Bears: 5 trade packages to explore with needy teams
By Ryan Heckman
Trade Package No. 4
Out of every trade package listed here, this one is the most risky — for both teams.
The Los Angeles Chargers are in an intriguing situation with their running back room. They boast one of the best in the game with Melvin Gordon, but he’s not with the team at the moment. Holding out for a bigger and better contract, Gordon has stood his ground at this point — and so have the Chargers.
Right now, the Chargers are going about their business as though Gordon won’t play a down in 2019. Currently, it’s Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson in the back field. While both are capable in their own respects, adding another back might not be the worst idea.
The Bears are needy at the tight end position, so getting a young player like Hunter Henry could wind up solving that issue. Trey Burton and Adam Shaheen have had their issues with injury, and behind those two are a few unproven guys.
This is a risk for both teams. Mike Davis and a fifth-rounder is a hefty price to pay for a guy like Henry. If it works out for both teams, Henry becomes the Bears’ top tight end and Davis becomes the first and second-down back for the Chargers. However, coming off injury, Henry is a risk himself. Should he be unable to stay healthy, the Bears lose this deal by far.
I could make an argument both for and against this deal, but in a perfect world, both teams win.
