Chicago Bears: Way-too-early 2020 offseason preview

2. Veteran cap casualties
There are a few names that the Bears will need to cut next season to make room for core players. Some of the most notable names to watch include Kyle Long and Prince Amukamara. Then there are names like Mike Davis and Taylor Gabriel that due to the emergence of other players at their respective positions may be let go.
Between Long and Amukamara, the Bears would save about $17 million dollars in cap space. This would mean that the Bears would then need to free up just eight million dollars more to allow for the team to be in a healthy cap situation.
That other eight million the Bears will be seeking could mean that the team moves on from both Mike Davis and Taylor Gabriel. Those should be relatively easy cuts to make because the Bears have emerging talent at both the running back and wide receiver positions that will have an impact as soon as David and Gabriel are cut.
While most may not want to see a guy like Long get cut, the Bears will need to value what’s more important to the team? Keeping around a long-time leader or moving on from him and get younger to keep more important players around.
