Dallas has already completed the hardest part of a rebuild: finding a pair of star players to build your franchise around.

Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis are without a doubt the cornerstones of Mark Cuban’s team, and will likely be a dominant pairing in the NBA for a very long time. Doncic’s Rookie of the Year campaign was very promising for this franchise, and although Porzingis’ knee injury may startle some, it is likely that he returns to his normal self.

With both Porzingis and Doncic below the age of 24, some may wonder why this team is not higher in the young core rankings. The fact of the matter is behind these two young studs, Dallas does not have many great young talents. Justin Jackson, Jalen Brunson, and Isaiah Roby could be nice pieces going forward, but they don’t exactly jump off of the stat sheet.

As previously stated, finding role players that fit well around stars is the easy part of building a long-lasting winner, which should make Dallas fans feel optimistic about the future. However, until this happens, the Mavs will be just shy of the top-five young cores in the National Basketball Association.
