Chicago Bears 2019 NFL Mock Draft 2.0: Replacing Jordan Howard
By Ryan Heckman
Round 7, Pick 238
Even though the common belief is that you rarely, if ever, draft a kicker, the Bears have to get this position figured out. If Cole Tracy is on the board with their last pick in the draft, the Bears have to jump all over him.
Tracy was arguably the best kicker in all of college football last year. In 2018, the LSU product nailed 29 of 33 field goals overall, with a long of 54 yards. On extra points, he was a perfect 42 of 42.
His road to the NFL is a funny one, as Tracy transferred for his final year of eligibility in 2018. Tracy came from a tiny school in Massachusetts, Assumption College. You can read more on his story here, but his road to being a potential NFL starting kicker didn’t start like one’s journey normally would.
It is a well-known fact that Chicago needs to solve its kicking problem. Sure, they signed Chris Blewitt, but I’m hoping he’s more of a body for competition. Bringing Tracy to Chicago would seemingly end any competition or controversy over the glaring problem at hand.
It’s not every day you get the best player at his position in the seventh round, but in this case, the Bears do just that. Tracy comes to Chicago, solidifies the kicking game and the Bears are on their way to a Super Bowl run this coming season.
