Round 4, Pick 126

57. 4. player. S. Oregon. Ugochukwu Amadi. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Going into this offseason, one of the biggest questions was whether or not the Bears would bring back veteran safety Adrian Amos. Alas, we saw Amos switch sides, cash in and head over to the Green Bay Packers.

From there, the Bears signed a former Packer to replace him in Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Signing Amos’ replacement for just $3.5 million on a 1-year deal was a huge win for Pace and company. However, he’ll almost certainly end up elsewhere next season, thus being simply a 1-year rental for the Bears.

In the fourth round, the Bears could end up finding their ultimate replacement with Ugochukwu Amadi out of Oregon. Amadi would fit perfectly within the Bears’ scheme, simply because his weaknesses aren’t necessarily a big deal. Like Amos, Amadi isn’t excellent playing deep and can get beat if he’s given a one-on-one opportunity.

But, also like Amos, Amadi is a strong run supporter. He’s a physical player with decent speed (4.51 second 40-yard dash at the Combine) who grinds out every snap. Last year with the Ducks, Amadi made an impact all over the place as he finished with 55 tackles, five tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, three interceptions and eight passes defensed.

Amadi found himself in the end zone often, too, returning two interceptions for touchdowns and even scoring on a punt return. He’s a versatile player, willing to plug in where he’s needed. A year of grooming under Pagano and the veterans, and Amadi could wind up paying dividends.
