Chicago Bears: Sleeper NFL Draft prospects at tight end
By Ryan Heckman
Kahale Warring, San Diego State
Finally, we get to Kahale Warring out of San Diego State. Pay close attention, here, because Warring has the chance to be a special player. Do not sleep on him, though many are still doing so this late in the game.
The average fan will look simply at stat lines when evaluating a position like tight end (or any position for that matter), but if you did that with Warring, you’d be mistaken.
Warring stands 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, and is an exceptional athlete. Once again, courtesy of Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, here’s an interesting tidbit: Warring played water polo, basketball, cross country, swimming, soccer and tennis in high school.
Say what?
Warring did it all. He’s well-conditioned (ran his 40-yard dash in 4.67 seconds) and knows how to put in hard work. You don’t star in six sports throughout high school without a desire to succeed and put in the sweat. He only played one year of high school football, so he’s newer to the game than most. But, he’s picked it up quickly.
Reading up on scouting reports, Warring is everything you want in a tight end, athletically. He’s hard-nosed and isn’t afraid to engage assertively with his blocks. He’s athletic enough to make the tough mid-air adjustments to the ball. His experience on the basketball court is obvious, given how well he positions his body in front of defenders.
I don’t even need to go into stats. Warring is a future stud, as long as he continues to soak up every bit of information he can. If he continues to learn and keeps that tireless work ethic of his, he’ll have a long career in the NFL.
Much of the scouting report information used in this piece can be found within Lance Zierlein’s draft profiles on NFL.com.
