Chicago Bears: Sleeper NFL Draft prospects at tight end
By Ryan Heckman
Dax Raymond, Utah State
If I have learned anything about head coach Matt Nagy in his first year as head coach, it’s that he values a few things higher than others: Integrity, hard work and fun. Those three things are all you need to be successful within this locker room. I might be a sucker for these types of players, but Dax Raymond is certainly of the high-character type.
Raymond took a two-year hiatus before his time at Utah State in order to serve with his church in Russia. He says that living abroad definitely prepared him for life as a professional football player, knowing he can adjust to living anywhere.
Because of his two-year mission, Raymond is now 24 years old and much older than the average rookie. But, he possesses a few things you like at the position.
First, Raymond is a quick athlete who knows how to use his hips and feet in order to run crisp routes and get open. He’s great at the second level, knowing how to use his body to get open against linebackers.
If he can get better with his hand usage overall, whether it’s being more careful blocking or going up for contested catches, Raymond has a shot to make a roster as a pro. I think, no matter what, the Bears would love his attitude and work ethic at Halas Hall.
