Chicago Bulls: Must-watch players in 2019 NCAA Tournament
By Ryan Heckman
Point Guard Ja Morant, Murray State
The obvious need for the Chicago Bulls, headed into this summer’s 2019 NBA Draft, is at the point guard position. We still aren’t sure if Kris Dunn is the right man for the job, and as time continues to pass, it looks more and more like he simply doesn’t fit.
If the Bulls are lucky enough to select Ja Morant out of Murray State, that problem would be resolved instantaneously. Morant put up one of the most impressive lines in the history of college basketball this season, averaging 24.6 points, 10.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals.
Morant is immediate excitement in any game. He’s a slashing point guard who loves to get to the hoop and reminds many of Russell Westbrook. His athleticism is off the charts, as he’s put up some highlight-reel dunks all season long at just 6-foot-3.
Taking over 16 shot attempts per game, Morant was efficient in his scoring, shooting 50.3 percent from the floor and over 81 percent from the free throw line.
Murray State (a 12-seed) opens the tournament with a matchup against no. 5 seed Marquette on Thursday. Morant has led his team to an 11-1 record over their last 12 and will look to pull off an upset in Round 1.
