Chicago Bears: Which teams are interested in Jordan Howard?
By Usayd Koshul
3. Houston Texans
Similar to the New York Jets, the Houston Texans are also looking to pursue Le’Veon Bell this offseason. While they have Lamar Miller on the roster, they likely want to add some competition and the team could decide to go with a running back by committee approach. In 2018, Miller averaged just 4.6 yards per carry and had just five touchdowns. He’s also 27 years old, meaning Houston is looking to get younger at the running back position.
Jordan Howard makes sense for Houston as they do not have a consistent power runner. The only playmakers that Houston currently has on the roster are DeShaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins. This is a team that still looks like it is finding its identity on offense.
While Houston has two second-round picks, they are not desperate for a running back. However, they could choose to part with their third-round pick (86th overall), which would give the Bears two back-to-back third round picks. This would be the ideal scenario for the Bears. Having two day two selections.
A second plan for the Bears could easily be to ship Howard off for Houston’s fifth-round pick (161st overall). This too would give the Bears back-to-back selections once again, however, the Bears could ask about potentially receiving an extra 2020 pick in return. This would put the Bears in a good situation as they would then have seven picks for the 2020 NFL Draft.
