Chicago Bears: 2019 post combine NFL Mock Draft
By Usayd Koshul
5. Round seven, 238th overall: OT Alex Bars, Notre Dame
As of right now, it’s difficult to project where Alex Bars will be drafted. However, he is likely to be a day three pick. With the Bears offensive line depth looking somewhat weak, the team could use one or two new bodies at the position.
Right away, there are a few things to like about Bars when he steps onto the field. First, he’s got the size to play guard in the NFL. Second, he’s played both inside and outside in his time at Notre Dame, playing both guard and tackle. He also uses size and strength at the point of attack which NFL teams will value.
However, as good of a depth piece as Bars can be for the Bears, he does have his limitations. When it comes to getting out in space, he’s not exactly the best move. He tends to struggle on one main type of pass plays: screen passes.
Another red flag with Bars is his medicals. He college career ended in September due to an ACL injury and it isn’t exactly clear as to whether or not he’s ready to be ready to go by the time training camp begins in July.
A major reason that the Bears could end up drafting Bars is due to the fact that Harry Hiestand, the Bears offensive line coached Bars in college. As of right now, Bars would be an ideal candidate to bring onto the Bears.
