Chicago Bears: Free agent edge rushers to replace Sam Acho
By Ryan Heckman
Vincent Rey
One of the lesser-known free agent pass rushers out there, but still worth a look, is Vincent Rey. The 31-year-old veteran has spent his entire 9-year career with the Cincinnati Bengals and just might end up finding a new home as a free agent this offseason.
The remarkable thing about Rey is that he originally went undrafted out of Duke, back in 2010. Since being picked up by the Bengals that year, he hasn’t left Cincinnati. Rey has been a mainstay with the Bengals organization for nine seasons, serving primarily as a backup. Like Acho, he has also been a contributor on special teams at times.
Also like Acho, Rey can offer this team at least one giant positive: His character. Rey became one of the most lovable guys amongst fans and the media over his years with the Bengals. Last year, he even won the team award for its “Good Guy” in 2018.
In seven of his nine NFL seasons, Rey has appeared in all 16 games, making a total of 50 starts. Much of his time was spent at the middle linebacker position, as well. He does have five career interceptions and 24 passes defensed over the years. If anything, as a speculative add and another boost inside the locker room, Rey is worth looking at.
