Chicago Bears: 5 trades to flip offseason on its head
By Ryan Heckman
4. Trade Jonathan Bullard for 7th-round pick
Another draft pick back in 2016, defensive end Jonathan Bullard hasn’t quite panned out for the Bears. At one point, he was one of the better defensive ends coming out of his draft class and could have been the Bears answer opposite of Akiem Hicks.
Three years later, and Bullard has two measly sacks over his NFL career. That’s not exactly what you want to see out of a third-round pick. Last season, Bullard saw both Roy Robertson-Harris and rookie fifth-round pick Bilal Nichols take up a lot of what could have been his playing time.
Nichols played far better than anyone would have expected out of a fifth-rounder, making it look even worse for a guy like Bullard. Robertson-Harris will hopefully be back with the team for 2019, making Bullard completely expendable.
This trade idea is a bit more farfetched, but if the Bears can find any taker for Bullard and net even a seventh-round pick out of the deal, I would call that a win. Bullard’s contract is up next year, and he has hardly been used recently as it is. If Pace cannot find something in return for Bullard, I would bet he is cut this summer.
