The latest Chicago White Sox rumors have Bryce Harper coming to the South side. Like it or not, and believe it or not, this could happen.

My, oh my. What is happening right now in the baseball world? Well, if you ask a certain former MLB general manager and executive of the year, he’ll convince you that the most recent Chicago White Sox rumors are no longer just rumors — something big is in the works.

Jim Bowden, former manager of the Cincinnati Reds and Montreal Expos, who would later become the Washington Nationals — intriguing connection, there — reported quite the bombshell on Wednesday afternoon. Bowden, now a co-host of SiriusXM’s Inside Pitch and an MLB insider for ESPN, gave White Sox fans reasons to be excited.

Yes, this is not a misprint. It’s not one of those tweets you see one second that is deleted the next moment. CBS Sports, one of the most well-respected sources in the sports world, combined with Bowden, gave all fans on the South side of Chicago reason to be very, very optimistic to land superstar outfielder Bryce Harper.

"“They are the team, right now, with the checkbooks open … they have done a very good job of selling. One of the things that they are pointing out is how good their minor league system is.”"

Bowden went on to say that the Sox may end up with the best offer; i.e. the most years, and the most money, even though they are not ready to win immediately.

The former GM also gave everyone reason why the Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers are no longer looked at as front runners for Harper.

He noted that Yankees GM Brian Cashman has even said that his club is not in the mix anymore. The Cubs and Dodgers, meanwhile, haven’t made the necessary moves they would have to make in order to make a reasonable bid for Harper.

The stove continues to get hotter and hotter as the minutes roll on. These Winter Meetings are some of the most interesting ones in recent memory, and the Harper splash could come any second now. If and when the Sox do land Harper, you better believe that franchise is not only relevant again, but headed for more wins, and those wins won’t be too far off in the future.
