Luka provides options

Luka Doncic is the second player that would be worth making a move up the draft. Despite the fact that I would never be able to get Suzanne Vega’s 1987 single Luka out of my head, the Bulls should go get him. Side note: the Bulls are looking to move up to pick no. 3. Luka climbed all the way to no. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.  There’s little chance that’s just a coincidence, right?

Fate notwithstanding, Doncic would be a tremendous “get” at no. 3 or no. 4. The first thing that jumps out when watching Doncic is his vision. He sees the floor extremely well and is able to envision passing lanes before they’re open. Once the lane opens he doesn’t need much space to deliver an accurate pass.

The second thing that stands out is his size. Doncic moves around with the elusiveness of a diminutive point guard, but he stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 230 pounds. Despite that, he maneuvers and slices through the lane and can finish at the rim. His size also enables him to finish through contact very well.

He’s also a very versatile player. Not only does he finish well inside the paint, but he can knock down the three with consistency. And with his height, he can post-up smaller guards. Another strength of Doncic’s game is his intelligence and fundamental soundness. At just 19 years old, he plays with the savviness of a 10-year NBA veteran.

The one concern for the Bulls would be that they already have a blossoming young point guard in Kris Dunn. However, as I mentioned earlier, Doncic is extremely versatile. He can easily play off the ball and would definitely be an outstanding compliment to Dunn’s game. I don’t see any issue with them on the floor at the same time.
