Robert Williams, C – Texas A&M

Well, let’s just get this out of the way up front. Robert Williams is without a doubt, the most athletic big man in this year’s draft. In fact, the mere mention of his name evokes two particular plays in the minds of fans. Both came in last year’s NCAA Tournament, and both displayed athleticism that no 6-foot-9, 237-pound man should have.

Again, if the Bulls are looking to pair Markkanen with more of an “enforcer” this could be their guy. Williams has shown some flashes offensively, but he is not going to be a guy who steps out to 18 feet to stroke a smooth jumper. He also is unlikely to be the guy who will back down his man and utilize a variety of nifty post-up moves to score.

However, Williams could be the Bulls “junk-yard dog.” He’s aggressive on the offensive and defensive glass and is at his best when mixing it up for a rebound. It helps that he is very explosive off his feet and can elevate quickly to secure the board.

Another aspect of Williams game that is perfectly suited for the Bulls is his defense. He has a tremendous wingspan, though it has been listed between 7-foot-4 and 7-foot-6. It enables him to block shots in the post, but also close out quickly on jump shooters. Williams is a very physical player, and when he’s going well, the rest of his game feeds off his defense.

However, there are times when Williams can seem disinterested on the court. In order to be an impact player at the next level, he is going to have to play with a high motor night in and night out. If the Bulls aren’t sold on his ability to do that, perhaps they look to a wing known for his ability to shoot.
