Depaul took Marquette on Monday night looking to begin a new win streak after a loss to Providence. They failed to do so losing 70-52.

So far in conference play the Depaul Blue Demons have been less than stellar, with only one win in six tries. After a 71-64 loss to the Friars on Friday, the Blue Demons took on Marquette Monday night looking to find some semblance of a win.

After starting off the game poorly, the Demons looked to find their way late in the first half. Despite being down by a score of 41-21 at half, the game was still in reach even if the score did not look like it. Stopping Marquette guard Sam Hauser was simply not going to happen no matter what Depaul did. He was making shot after shot after shot in the first half, finishing with 11 points, including 3-7 from downtown.

On the Depaul side of things, they couldn’t buy a shot to save their life. They would shoot a miserable 6-33 from the field in the first half, good enough for an 18.2%. Leading scorers Max Strus and Marin Maric who combine for an average of 31 points, were held to a combined 3 points on 0-11  shooting, with the only points coming off three free throws by Strus.

After the second half began, the Demons looked to be turning the tide in the game, as they made the first two buckets of the half before Hauser would once again make another three. After that play it was all Golden Eagles, Depaul would go five minutes from the 18 minute mark to the 13 minute mark before scoring another bucket.

The Blue Demons would go on to lose the game by a final score of 70-52. The loss dropped them to 9-9 on the season, and 1-5 in Big East play.
