Chicago White Sox: Updated ranking of the top 15 prospects
3. Michael Kopech, RHP
Right-handed fire baller Michael Kopech is arguably the most popular prospect in the Chicago White Sox farm system right now. With the ability to hit over 100 MPH on the radar gun, fans are in love with the way this kid pitches. After a strong showing in spring training, Kopech earned himself a roster spot in Double-A.
Kopech currently has a 6-6 record and a 3.51 ERA in Double-A. Most impressively, he has an incredible 114 strikeouts in 92.1 innings pitched for the Barons. Kopech has had many strong outings this season and has amassed 10+ strikeouts multiple times. He definitely has the stuff to be a front of the rotation starter for the Chicago White Sox, given he keeps his same mindset and determination that has got him this far.
If Kopech can develop a strong change-up to keep hitters honest against his fastball, he will be unstoppable. Kopech has a lot of similarities to Chris Sale. Although Sale is a lefty and Kopech righty, both have extremely good fastballs and can make you look silly with their sliders. If you can pound the strike zone with a 98+ fastball and then come back with a 90+ slider, things can go south for hitters right away.
I fully expect to see Kopech work his way up the system at a fast pace and dawn that White Sox logo soon.
