The Chicago Blackhawks know how good Patrick Kane has been for USA hockey. Alex DeBrincat could be next if he plays well leading into 2022.

The Independence Day of the United States, or otherwise known as the 4th of July, is upon us tomorrow. As hockey fans, it makes us want to think about the state of where the US is at. With rising stars like Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel, Charlie McAvoy, and Jack Hughes coming along, it is easy to be excited about where the game is going for the country. Chicago Blackhawks forward, Alex DeBrincat, is going to be a big part of that and it is very exciting.

The Chicago Blackhawks took DeBrincat in the second round (39th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft. Well, he turned out to have fallen significantly lower than he should have as he is one of the better players in the draft. He is from Farmington Hills, Michigan and he is looking to become one of the more significant American born players.

DeBrincat really took off in his first two years in the league. In his rookie season (2018-19), he had 28 goals and 24 assists for 52 points. Then in his sophomore season, he had 41 goals and 35 assists for 76 points. He was clearly a player who can put the puck in the back of the net with regularity after two seasons.

His third season (this season) was a bit tough on him. He only had 18 goals and 27 assists for 45 points in 70 games. Those aren’t completely ugly numbers by any means but after what we got used to, he sold himself short this season. That doesn’t at all mean that he can’t get back to the production he was once at.

Hot. There is a zero percent chance Patrick Sharp makes the Hall of Fame. light

If he is able to start to resemble the first two seasons like we think he will one day, he will certainly be an Olympian. Even if he is on the third or fourth line, it would mean that the team is very good and would have a chance at a Gold Medal. All we want to see is team USA win an Olympic Gold Medal for the first time in a very long time for hockey and DeBrincat may get a chance to be a big part of that one day.
