The Chicago White Sox called up number one prospect Yoan Moncada on Wednesday for their game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The day has finally come and gone. Yoan Moncada has made his Chicago White Sox debut. Moncada started at second base and batted sixth in the order. How did the night go for baseball’s number one prospect?

Moncada would end up going 0-2 in his debut with a walk. However, Moncada looked impressive in his three at bats. The first at bat Moncada would fall behind 0-2 and battle back and earn a walk. It was a very impressive and important at bat for the youngster. Falling behind 0-2 in your first at bat isn’t an easy thing to come back from. He battled and earned a walk and a standing ovation from the White Sox faithful in the stands.

Moncada’s other two at bats would see him hit the ball hard. It shows that his swing is down and he is ready for major league pitching. Just because he didn’t register a hit last night, doesn’t mean he didn’t impress.

Will the pressure get to him?

This is a completely new set of circumstances for the Chicago White Sox and their fan base. The rebuild has brought many new faces to the organization. However, when you’re the focal point of trading away the franchise’s top pitcher and one of the best pitchers in baseball, the pressure will mount. Moncada will forever be remembered as the player that cost the Sox Chris Sale. With that will come added pressure and stress that the youngster is hopefully ready for.

Moncada is a great talent and I feel like he will handle all of this like a professional. I also hope that White Sox fans realize that he alone is not going to turn the team around. It’s going to be a long rebuild and just because Moncada is up on the big league team now, does not mean anything. They are still not ready to compete anytime soon.

Moncada will have a lot to prove, but so does a lot of players that were traded for. Simply put, let Moncada play his game and don’t expect the world from a 22-year-old kid. Let the chips fall where they may.
