The Chicago Bears signing of wide receiver Titus Davis is something to keep an eye on. Davis is an interesting player who could make an impact on the team at the position of need.

After a tryout with the team over during the rookie minicamp, the Chicago Bears have signed wide receiver Titus Davis. Davis is the older brother of Corey Davis, who went fifth overall to the Tennessee Titans in the 2017 NFL Draft. The elder Davis went undrafted out of Central Michigan in 2015.

Davis joins the Bears after bouncing around the NFL with the San Diego Chargers, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets the past two years. This signing may not seem like much on the surface, but it was not long ago that Davis was an extremely interesting wide receiver prospect.

Titus Davis left Central Michigan with 204 receptions for 3,700 yards and 37 touchdowns. He was a consistent playmaker for the team for four seasons, showing great overall ability at the wide receiver position.

A look back at Davis entering the 2015 NFL Draft and I was quickly reminded why I liked him so much. Davis was such a smooth route runner in college, seemingly always finding room in the defense. If there was a play to be made, he knew how to find the open space to make it. That kind of skill just does not go away.

Davis is not the fastest or most explosive athlete at the wide receiver position but he can go up and get the ball in the air. Do not expect Davis to be a big time deep threat but he can certainly make an impact in the short to intermediate range, especially against zone coverage.

A smart and consistent player, who always seems to make an impact when given a chance, I wonder if Davis could carve out a role with the Chicago Bears. After losing Alshon Jeffery in free agency, the Bears’ wide receivers leave plenty to be desired. There will be opportunities for unheralded receivers like Davis to make an impact.

If he shows up and brings the same well-rounded skillset that we saw in college, Davis could be a game changer for the Bears.
