Is there mounting momentum for the Chicago Bears to take a quarterback in the first round? We take another look at their possible moves in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Well, we are another week closer to the 2017 NFL Draft. As we get closer to draft day, speculation on what the Chicago Bears will do runs high.

Some of that speculation surrounds the Bears’ first round pick. They pick third overall, and talk has run the gamut from defensive ends (Jonathan Allen and Solomon Thomas), to quarterback (Deshaun Watson), to safety (Jamal Adams). There’s been a lot of momentum pointing to Watson as the pick, though the selections on mocks are varied.

Will the Bears pick a quarterback? General manager Ryan Pace recently raised eyebrows by saying the Bears will choose the best player available in the draft, and if that means no quarterback then so be it. Take that for what it’s worth. They’ve been scouting a ton of quarterbacks, and they recently sent a cavalcade of personnel to see his Pro Day. Also, do you see the Bears taking a running back if that’s the best player available?

The Bears could decide to go with a developmental quarterback. Picking up Watson or Mitchell Trubisky could put undo pressure on Mike Glennon. Pace says he loves Glennon and tried to trade for him last season. If that’s the case, he’ll want to make sure Glennon succeeds. If Glennon does succeed, having another good quarterback who can step in is great. Quarterbacks in today’s NFL constantly go down. Having a capable backup is important. At any rate, with two quality quarterbacks, some deals can be made.

Of course, the Bears could go defensive and continue to make improvements on a pretty good defense. Holding the opposing offense from scoring makes life easier for the offense.

Here is my latest seven-round mock draft for the Chicago Bears:
