The 2017 MLB season is almost upon us. As we head into Sunday’s start, we here at Da Windy City make our predictions on how the season will go for our Chicago teams.

It seems like just yesterday that the Chicago Cubs and the city (along with a lot of the nation) celebrated the end of the longest title drought in North American sports history. The vision of Kris Bryant getting to a ground ball and almost slipping as he makes the throw to Anthony Rizzo to get the final out in Game 7 of the World Series. In actuality, that was over four months ago. Now, the 2017 MLB season is almost upon us. The Cubs begin their quest to repeat on Sunday against the hated St. Louis Cardinals.

The season also starts for the Chicago White Sox, aka the Southside Hitmen as well. While they didn’t experience the same joys their brethren on the Northside did, they were busy in the offseason. They made some huge trades that sent Chris Sale and Adam Eaton out of town. In exchange, the Sox received some top-notch prospects such as Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Lucas Giolito and others. The team’s rebuild plan is in full effect. In addition, they parted ways with manager Robin Ventura and hired former Cubs manager Rick Renteria.

The White Sox may not be on the Cubs’ level of talent (yet), but their fans finally have a reason for hope in the future. Much the same as Cubs fans hoped their super prospects would come up and bring in a new era of winning, White Sox fans look for lightning to strike again in the city. Also, they still have Jose Quintana (for now) and he is the new ace.

The Cubs themselves made some moves. Out went Aroldis Chapman, Jorge Soler, and Dexter Fowler. In came Wade Davis, Koji Uehara, and Jon Jay.

The Cubs didn’t make huge deals, but what they did solidified the team and made it ready to defend the title.

So how will the 2017 season progress? Read on to see what Da Windy City thinks.
