The Chicago Blackhawks traveled to Detroit Friday night and lost what should’ve been a victory against a bottom dweller Red Wings team.

For the second time in as many nights, the Chicago Blackhawks found themselves at the losing end of the scorecard. The Detroit Red Wings were clicking on all cylinders tonight and with a lot of help from Thomas Tatar and his two goals. In the end, the Red Wings were able to easily take down the Hawks.

The game started out with a goal by Artemi Panarin which for Blackhawks fans was exciting to see as he has been struggling to reach the scoring column in recent weeks. But shortly after that, it was all downhill from there. Detroit took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Detroit would grab another goal in the second period making it 3-1 with less than one minute remaining Trevor van Riemsdyk scored his fourth goal of the season.

Corey Crawford had 25 saves and for the most part look extremely rusty between the pipes. Failing to safely secure rebounds lead to a lot of scoring chances for the Red Wings. Detroit had their way with Chicago’s defense tonight something that isn’t the norm. Crawford had some big saves but at the end of the night, it just wasn’t enough for Detroit’s offense and their physical play.

Detroit is now 26-29-11 with 63 points and will be extremely lucky to get close to a playoff spot. However, that doesn’t matter in a rivalry game like this. The Red Wings brought their best and the Chicago Blackhawks were not able to match their effort.

Highlights

Three Stars

  1. Thomas Tatar- 2 goals and 1 assist
