The Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics could revisit trade discussions centering around All-Star Jimmy Butler this week.

The NBA Trade Deadline is this Thursday and the Chicago Bulls are expected to be among the more active teams at the deadline.

According to NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the possibility remains that the Bulls could trade All-Star Jimmy Butler to the Boston Celtics before the NBA Trade Deadline.

The Celtics have always been the most prevalent team in the Butler trade rumors. Dating back to this summer, the idea was that if the Bulls were going to trade Butler, the Celtics would be the team that had the strongest chance at landing the All-Star forward. In the video above, Wojnarowski, states that the Celtics would part with one of the two Brooklyn Nets’ first round picks that they own the rights to in the next two drafts.

For the Bulls to trade Butler, that would signal a complete rebuild. Until this point, the Bulls have opted for a soft rebuild. Meaning, the Bulls would build around Butler while converting to a younger and more athletic roster. For the Bulls to trade Butler, that would signal that the team is entering a complete rebuild as they look for a new player to rebuild around.

If the Bulls are going to trade Butler, then the team may want to wait until the off-season. Trades involving superstar players like Butler, generally do not materialize during the season. The reason for that is because a player like Butler has greater value in the off-season as opposed to in-season. Having said that, the injury to Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers may lead to the Celtics believing they have a real opportunity at dethroning the Cavaliers.
