The Chicago Bears hold the No. 3 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Bears must select the right player as they look to get their franchise headed in the right direction.

Sunday’s conference championship games were yet another example of why the quarterback position in the NFL is so important.

Atlanta Falcons’ starting quarterback Matt Ryan passed for 392 passing yards and 4 touchdowns in the Falcons’ 44-21 victory over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game.

Not to be outdone, New England Patriots’ starting quarterback Tom Brady passed for 384 yards and 3 touchdowns in Patriots’ 36-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship game.

There is no question that Ryan has been the best quarterback in the NFC this season and Brady has been the best quarterback in the AFC this season. That would be why it should come as no surprise that both Brady and Ryan are competing against one another in the Super Bowl.

With Brady and Ryan competing in the Super Bowl, that reaffirms the fact that the quarterback position is the most important position in the NFL.

With that in mind, the Bears would be foolish to pass up on a potential franchise quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft. Clemson’s DeShaun Watson, Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer, and North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky top the quarterback class for the 2017 NFL Draft. The Bears need to select one of those quarterbacks with the No. 3 overall selection and that player is Kizer.

Despite Notre Dame’s disappointing 2016 season, Kizer remains the quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft with the highest potential. Kizer’s 6’5″, 220-pound frame is the ideal size for a quarterback in the NFL. Pair Kizer’s size with his strong arm and NFL coaches should be salivating over the thought of getting their hands on the former Notre Dame starting quarterback.

The Bears need to jump at the opportunity to select Kizer in the 2017 NFL Draft.

DeShone Kizer provides the Chicago Bears with an immediate long-term answer at the quarterback position and likely their first franchise quarterback since Sid Luckman.
