We show what some experts around the NFL say about the Chicago Bears.

As important as it is to know how people in Chicago feel about what direction the Chicago Bears are going, it is important for the team to know what other people around the NFL think. In order to make some moves, understanding what other teams think about what you do can be helpful. Knowing that you can make moves that help your franchise.

Here is what people around the NFL are saying about the Chicago Bears:

Mel Kiper, ESPN Draft Expert

Kiper released his first mock draft (subscription required) last Thursday. He had the Bears selecting Jonathan Allen with the third overall pick. He feels Allen adds flexibility on the Bears’ defensive line. He could play tackle, but in Vic Fangio’s 3-4 base scheme he would be an end.

“Positional flexibility is a big selling point, and he’d likely play end in the Bears’ 3-4 in this scenario,” Kiper wrote. “He was one of the best players in college football in 2016. The Bears had a disappointing 2016 season and have needs across the board, including at quarterback, safety and potentially receiver, depending on what happens with free agent Alshon Jeffery.”

Daniel Jeremiah, NFL.com

Jeremiah also released his first mock (last Wednesday), and he also had Allen going to the Bears at three.

I recently wrote about Allen’s transforming the Chicago Bears’ defensive line. Jeremiah agrees. “The Addition of Allen would give the Bears one of the best young defensive lines in the NFL. He can play multiple spots and is one of the most technically sound defensive linemen I’ve ever evaluated.”

More from Da Windy City

Jeremiah also ranked the 50 top rookies in the NFL in 2016, and he gave Bears fans hope for the future. He listed three Bears on that list. They were Jordan Howard (#7), Cody Whitehair (#15), and Leonard Floyd (#24). See, while we suffered through a horrible season,

Walterfootball.com

In taking a look at the Chicago Bears’ offseason, Walterfootball.com covered some of their needs. They agree that the Bears are moving on from Jay Cutler, but see them taking a veteran to hold the fort until they draft the franchise quarterback. They don’t see anyone in this draft class, however. It may not be until 2018 that they get their guy.

“The Bears are finally moving on from Jay Cutler, so they have to find a franchise quarterback somehow. That may not happen until 2018 because of the weak class. Perhaps Chicago can obtain a rental in Tony Romo in the meantime.”

I’m not sure about the Bears going for Romo, but there is talk about the Bears and Romo elsewhere.

They also talked about the Bears needing a left tackle, a plan in case Alshon Jeffery leaves, and a pass rusher to finally put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

So that’s what the word around the NFL is on the Chicago Bears. Hopefully, general manager Ryan Pace, coach John Fox and the rest of the front office make the moves necessary to bring a winner back to Chicago.
