Time For The Chicago Bulls To Follow Cubs’ Model to Success
The Chicago Bulls are once again proving to be just an average team in the middle of the pack this season. It’s time for this organization to look into emulating the World Series champs’s guide to sustainable success.
The Chicago Cubs won the 2016 World Series. They did it with loads of young talented players contributing left and right throughout their latest season. Of course, winning games, as well as winning the World Series wasn’t easy for this proud Cubs’ organization. The organization finally won for the first time in 108 years in large part because they were willing to trade away veteran players over the years in exchange for young emerging talent. The Chicago Bulls should take note of this.
The Bulls, as we know, are just an ordinary team. They are not close to being a championship contender, and are just a .500 team at best. The organization lacks talent, particularly on the offensive side of the court. Their best player, Jimmy Butler is fun to watch no doubt, but other than him, the Bulls have no promising player to help win games. Dwyane Wade just turned 35 years old, and is unfortunately past his prime.
If the Bulls want to win now…and that’s a big stretch, they need to acquire more shooters that can make shots while spacing the floor. Acquiring better shooters than what this team has will take the burden off of both Butler and Wade.
Unfortunately though, in order for the Bulls to do this, they would likely need to part ways with some of their own players. Finding impact players in the free agent pool this time around is not likely to happen.
Sadly, the only players the Bulls could get significant value in return for are Butler, Wade, and Taj Gibson, so wanting to win now means not giving away your three best players.
Since that’s the case, in order for the Bulls to get better, they have to think long term. The Bulls can do exactly this by rebuilding their roster from the top-down, like the Chicago Cubs did.
The Bulls need to start over from scratch. Trading Butler, Wade, and Gibson would be a terrific start. By trading away these three players, the Bulls could get plenty of future draft picks/young promising talent to ultimately build around in years to come.
Just as Chicago Cub fans have learned over the years, patience eventually pays off. If you have an organization that is willing to sacrifice good veteran players in exchange for boatloads of young talented players/draft picks, good things tend to happen to your franchise.
Of course, there are no guarantees that future draft picks will pay off for the Bulls. What can be guaranteed is that if the Bulls continue to parade the same old roster each and every night, they won’t be winning a championship anytime soon.
