The case for Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson to be the Chicago Bears’ selection with the No. 3 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Over the course of the next three months, there will be much debate over who the Chicago Bears should draft with the No. 3 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft.

For the Bears, this is a rather important moment in their franchise. The Bears need to select a player that can be a franchise-altering player. The Bears have not been in the playoffs since 2010 and general manager Ryan Pace and head coach John Fox can not afford a third consecutive disappointing season.

More from Chicago Bears

With the third overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Bears need to find a player that can alter the direction that the team has been in over the course of the past two seasons. Who is that player?

That player is Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson. Understandably, there are questions over Watson. The questions are centered around Watson’s decision making as he threw 17 interceptions during the 2016 college football season. While that number certainly is not appealing it’s not enough to scare a team from selecting Watson with a top-3 selection in the draft.

Watson is a play-maker. Watson passed for over 4,500 yards this season along with 41 touchdowns. Watson also rushed for over 600 yards this past season and 9 rushing touchdowns. Not too mention, Watson has show complete poise under the most pressured situations. Watson’s poise during the second half of the National Title game last week was one of the main reasons why Clemson was able to rally back to defeat Alabama.

Watson’s poise speaks to the true nature of his leadership qualities. Watson is a leader on and off the football field. That is what the Bears need out of their franchise quarterback.
