In anticipation of finalizing their 53-man roster, the Chicago Bear began cutting players on Friday afternoon and have until Saturday at 3 p.m. to trim their roster down to 53 players.
The Bears cut five players on Friday including former Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch.
With the five players cut on Saturday, the team entered Saturday needing to cut 17 more players.
The Bears have begun their final cuts on Saturday as the team has informed offensive linemen Taylor Boggs and Ryan Groy, and defensive back Marcus Trice that they have been placed on waivers.
With the releasing of Boggs and Groy, that gives the Bears a total of nine offensive linemen on their roster. The Bears will likely stay at the number of nine offensive linemen meaning Charles Leno Jr and Michael Ola will likely make the Bears’ 53-man roster.
Boggs operated as the backup center for the Bears last season. Though, with the signing of former New Orleans Saints center Brian De La Puente in the off-season, the odds of Boggs making the roster this season were not that strong.
An important thing to remember is that the Bears can not put injured wide receiver Marquess Wilson on the injured reserve-designated to return list until Tuesday. Meaning Wilson will take up a spot on the Bears’ 53-man roster until Tuesday.
The Bears need to cut 14 more players before finalizing their 53-man roster.
