In anticipation of finalizing their 53-man roster, the Chicago Bears have been making roster moves over the course of the past 48 hours.
In continuing their efforts, the Chicago Bears have placed cornerback C.J. Wilson on waivers. Wilson has a total of three interceptions for the Bears over the course of the past two pre-seasons.
Wilson has been a pre-season staple for the Bears in recent seasons. Wilson, however, had long odds of making the Bears 53-man roster this season.
With Charles Tillman and Tim Jennings firmly entrenched as the starting cornerbacks for the Bears, rookie cornerback Kyle Fuller has solidified himself as the team’s nickleback. Behind Fuller, Kelvin Hayden is next on the Bears’ depth chart at cornerback. Cornerback Sherrick McManis has become a respected player for the Bears on special teams. With five cornerbacks already locked for the 53-man roster, Wilson was likely on the outside looking in.
Wilson played in two games for the Bears last season and recorded 1 tackle.
The Bears also announced that linebacker Jerry Franklin will be released.
With Wilson being placed on waivers and Franklin being released, the Bears have seven more roster moves to make before finalizing their 53-man roster.
The Bears need to have their roster down to 53 players by 3 p.m. on Saturday.
