Chicago Cubs Trade Rumors: Cubs Acquire Felix Doubront

The Chicago Cubs have acquired 26-year old starting pitcher Felix Doubront from the Boston Red Sox.

In exchange, the Cubs will be sending a player to be named later to the Red Sox.

Doubront has struggled this season with the Red Sox. Doubront has appeared in 17 games this season with the Red Sox, 10 of which were starts, while posting an ERA of 6.07. For his career, Doubront has an ERA of 4.82.

Doubtront is an interesting acquisition for the Cubs.

With Tsuyoshi Wada and Kyle Hendricks proving to be effective replacements in the starting rotation for Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel, there doesn’t appear to be a spot in the starting rotation for Doubront.

Though, with the trade deadline on Thursday, it is possible that the Cubs could find a way to trade Edwin Jackson. If Jackson is traded, Doubront could then slide into the rotation.

Doubront has a history with Cubs’ president Theo Epstein and that may have been what the triggered the deal between the two teams.
