NBA Free Agency News: Carlos Boozer Acquired By Los Angeles Lakers

The Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers were unable to work out a sign-and-trade involving Carlos Boozer and Pau Gasol, however, that has not stopped the Lakers from acquiring Boozer.

On Thursday, the Lakers acquired Boozer on amnesty waivers after the Bulls’ released the veteran forward earlier this week.

With Gasol signing with the Bulls, the Lakers may have been better off acquiring Boozer through a trade as they would have also acquired future draft picks. Nonetheless, Gasol is now with the Bulls and Boozer is now with the Lakers.

Boozer struggled last season with the Bulls. Boozer’s offense deteriorated during the later months of the season and his struggles eventually reached a point where he was simply keeping the 4-spot warm for Taj Gibson.

Boozer was in need of a change of scenery.

Boozer was outspoken about Bulls’ head coach Tom Thibodeau throughout the duration last season and it was clear that Thibodeau no longer had any use for the power forward.

The Bulls’ series with the Lakers next season figures to have intrigue with the two teams essentially swapping power forwards.
