Pau Gasol appears to be close to becoming the newest addition to the Chicago Bulls’ roster.
Gasol tweeted on Friday afternoon that he was very close to making a decision, and on Friday night, several reports indicated that Gasol was closing in on an agreement with the Bulls.
Most notably, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports tweeted that the Bulls and Gasol were working to reach an agreement.

The preferred way for the Bulls to acquire Gasol would be through a sign-and-trade. Such a scenario would not impact the Bulls’ pursuit of Carmelo Anthony. The Bulls are offering Anthony a two-year deal with the idea of Anthony signing a max-extension after the first two years have expired.
Anthony has expressed a desire to play with Gasol.
Acquiring Gasol would certainly create more appeal for Anthony to sign with the Bulls.
Gasol, despite being 34 years old, is a fit with the Bulls. Gasol’s ball-handling ability figures to compliment both Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. Gasol’s defensive struggles figure to be overshadowed by the fact that Noah is the reigning defensive player of the year.
If the Bulls do not complete a sign-and-trade with the Lakers and simply sign Gasol outright, then that would be an indicator that the team does not believe that they will be landing Anthony.
