When people look at an offense, they look right away at the skill positions. Yes, those players are important, but a player that is severely under-appreciated is the center.

Roberto Garza is an important cog in the Chicago Bears offense. The thirty five year old is entering his 14th and probably last season. He signed a one year contract this offseason, and with the signing of Brian de la Puente away from the New Orleans Saints, the writing is on the wall.

At this point of his career, Garza is not an elite lineman. What he is, however, is a glue for the offense. He has Jay Cutler’s trust, and he does a good job of protecting the middle. He’s got the assignment calls down pat, and can anticipate what the defense wants to do. De la Puente will be a good center, but if this is his last season, Garza will go all out to help take the offense to the promised land.
