Thursday plans to be another busy day for the Chicago Bulls’ front office.
The Bulls’ front office will be traveling to Los Angeles on Thursday to meet with free agent forward Pau Gasol.
Interesting enough, the Bulls and top-target Carmelo Anthony will be in Los Angeles on the same day. Though, the Bulls are not expected to cross paths with Anthony on Thursday. Anthony is visiting with the Lakers on Thursday.
The Lakers being Gasol’s former team.
When free agency first began, it seemed as if the Bulls’ interest in Gasol was just an example of the front office casting a wide net.
That no longer appears to be the case.
Gasol is believed to be the Bulls’ second free agent target behind Anthony.
ESPN has learned, meanwhile, that Bulls officials are headed to LA on Thursday for sitdown with their top target after Melo: Pau Gasol

Initially, I have been strongly against the Bulls’ pursuit of Gasol.
But after further consideration, the addition of Gasol to the Bulls would be a successful move for the Bulls’ front office.
With the Lakers last season, Gasol averaged 17.4 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field.
The reason why Gasol makes sense for the Bulls is because he offers a scoring presence for the Bulls in the post. Gasol’s scoring presence would be greater than what the Bulls have received from Carlos Boozer in recent seasons and would compliment nicely with the defensive-minded Joakim Noah.
Where the Bulls pursuit of Gasol is most interest is how the former Laker impacts the Bulls’ efforts to sign Anthony. It seems as if the Bulls are interested in signing both Gasol and Anthony. Though, if that is the case, the Bulls would almost certainly need to acquire Anthony through a sign-and-trade with the New York Knicks.
Another issue to bring up with the Bulls’ pursuit of Gasol is Taj Gibson.
When Anthony met with the Bulls on Tuesday, both sides were in agreement that Gibson was a valuable member to the roster. Gibson’s value, however, would be thwarted if Gasol signed with the Bulls. Meaning the Bulls’ interest in Gasol may signal that Gibson may be included in a possible sign-and-trade.
Beyond the Bulls, the Oklahoma City Thunder have also been mentioned as a favorite for Gasol.
