While the Minnesota Timberwolves remain non-committal on the idea of trading all-star Kevin Love before the NBA Draft on Thursday, the Bulls are working diligently to acquire Love and plan on doing so before Thursday’s draft.
The report about the Bulls’ offer comes on the same day that trade talks between the Golden State Warriors and Timberwolves are believed to have derailed.
The Bulls’ offer for to the Timberwolves for Love is probably the strongest that the team can make.
While the Bulls have been hesitant on the idea of trading Gibson, including the forward in a trade for Love makes sense. If Love were to be acquired by the Bulls, Gibson would be forced to play off bench for another season. Since 2010, Gibson has been forced to come off the bench behind Carlos Boozer.
The 2014-2015 NBA Season figured to be the season where Gibson broke into the starting rotation.
That opportunity would be thwarted if Love was acquired by the Bulls while Gibson was still on the team. That would be why it makes sense for the Bulls to offer up Gibson to the Timberwolves in their trade talks for Love.
The Bulls are currently working on measures to acquire Love or Carmelo Anthony. Recently, the idea of acquiring Anthony has been far more likelier than the idea of acquiring Love. Though, if the Warriors have indeed hit a wall in their trade efforts for Love, then the Bulls could swoop in and acquire Love by Thursday.
If the Bulls were to acquire Love than that would all but signal the end of their pursuit for Anthony.
