In 2010, Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose took criticism for his unwillingness to recruit players to Chicago. Rose refused to join the Bulls’ efforts in 2010 in trying to land LeBron James, Chris Bosh, or Dwyane Wade. Rose wouldn’t even send a text message expressing his interest in playing with one of the big free agents in 2010.
Now in 2014, Rose has the chance to soften his stance and help the Bulls’ recruiting efforts. The Bulls have been pursuing Kevin Love and Carmelo Anthony this off-season, but according to a report from the New York Daily News, Rose is not recruiting either player to Chicago. The report also cites a source in saying that Rose prefers that the Bulls’ acquire Love instead of Anthony.

According to sources close to Kevin Love, Rose’s preference is for the Bulls to work out a deal as soon as possible for Minnesota’s All-Star forward because he sees Love as more of a team player than Anthony. Chicago is in the mix with Golden State for Love, with Boston and Denver considered long shots. If it makes any difference to Melo, Rose has no plans to recruit Love, who is free next summer, either. But the Bulls already know whom he’d really prefer to play with in the future.
Rose and Love have been good friends since the two have been in the NBA as the pair would often workout together in the off-season. The friendship between Rose and Love has led to speculation throughout the years that the Bulls would be interested in Love once he became available by the Minnesota Timberwolves
With Love wanting out of Minnesota, the Timberwolves have begun fielding offers for their superstar. There is a relatively strong chance that Love could be dealt before the NBA Draft on Thursday. Though, at this point, the belief is that the Bulls can not match the trade offer from the Golden State Warriors.
That would be why, for the Bulls, the focus has been on Anthony.
While Rose prefers Love to Anthony, the Bulls’ point guard is not opposed to idea of the Bulls acquiring Anthony this summer. Though, don’t expect Rose to express that sentiment publicly.
