The success of the Chicago Bulls’ off-season will largely be judged on whether or not the Bulls’ front office can land a superstar player this summer. Between Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Love, and LeBron James, the Bulls will make a strong effort to acquire one of three and solidify their spot as a contender for the NBA Finals.
If the Bulls fail to land one of the three superstars, then the team will be no different than the ones that enjoyed great regular season success but dissolved in the playoffs.
The Bulls may be close to solidifying themselves as a finals’ contender.
According to a report from SNY.TV and The Knicks Blog, sources believe that the Bulls are the most likely landing spot for Anthony.
The report goes on the mention that the Knicks and Bulls could work out a sign-and-trade prior to the NBA Draft next Thursday. The report mentions that the possible trade would send Carlos Boozer and one of the two first round draft picks that the Bulls control to the Knicks for Anthony. The Bulls would make the draft selection and then send the player to the Knicks in July. The Bulls would also need to trade away Taj Gibson and another player in order to clear space for Anthony.
When the Bulls’ playoff run first concluded, the belief was that the team was a long-shot to acquire Anthony this summer. Now, as the days pass, the Bulls’ chances of acquiring Anthony have increased steadily each day to the point where the team is now believed to be the front-runner to acquire the Knicks’ forward this summer.
The tell-all will be next Thursday at the draft. If the Bulls trade one if not both of their first round draft picks or make any other move that clears significant space on their payroll, then that indicates that the team will make a full-fledged run at Anthony.
