The FIFA World Cup is here! Time for all Americans to care about soccer for a little over a week while holding on to the small, very small, hope that the US will pull off upset after upset and win the world’s greatest football tournament. Well, I’ve done my predictions, and I can assure you that the US will not only not pull off any upsets, they also won’t even win a match. Even though one team in their group is ranked 20 spots below them in the FIFA rankings, I don’t see the team winning a match, and have them tied for last place with Ghana, only gaining one point.
Now, while I’m a huge soccer/football fan, I’m no expert. This is just all thought. The Us did draw the Group of Death. They’re rated no.14 in the world by FIFA, yet have drawn two top five nations in Germany and Portugal. At the very least, those who don’t watch soccer on a regular basis can finally see Cristiano Ronaldo live, as he will get a chance to decimate the poor American side. However, the Americans do not stand a chance against either side, as both Germany and Portugal will lay waste to an American side who poses little to no real threat. I could definitely see two three-plus goal losses for the Americans, although that may be much even for the strong Portuguese and Germans.
The US does have a chance to beat Ghana, but I just think they will disappoint to set the stage for the rest of their World Cup. Just think, if the US wins and Portugal and Germany play to a draw, or the US defeats Ghana by more goals than the other winner, they will be leading the group following the first day of action. Wishful thinking to be sure.
Don’t expect much everybody, the US has little to no chance of defeating the two powerhouses in their group, and I don’t even see them putting the sacrificial lamb down in their first match. Get your back up countries ready, the US has only three games to play before they get sent packing.
