Chicago Cubs baseball is on the air, broadcasting on WBBM 780 AM.
While it may not have a ring to it yet, WBBM 780 AM will indeed be the new radio home for the Cubs beginning in 2015.
The Cubs, along with CBS Radio, will announce on Thursday that the two sides have reached an agreement on a 7-year deal that will make WBBM 780 AM the new home for the Cubs.
With the announcement, the Cubs will signal the end to their 90-year relationship with WGN Radio.
While the terms of the deal between the Cubs and CBS Radio were not released to the public, the Chicago Tribune reports that the deal includes promotion from other CBS-owned radio stations in Chicago. CBS owns WSCR 670 AM, “The Score”, as well as WCFS-FM 105.9.
The deal for the Cubs with CBS Radio may be similar to the deal that the Chicago Bears have with CBS Radio. Bears’ games are broadcast on WBBM, however, The Score also offers promotional radio shows for the Bears.
With the agreement, the Bears, Cubs, and Chicago White Sox are now a part of the same radio family.
Cubs’ games will begin to be broadcast on WBBM in 2015.
