Friday marks the start of the Chicago Bears’ rookie mini-camp today. The camp, which lasts the duration of the weekend, is the first opportunity for Bears’ head coach Marc Trestman and his coaching staff get a first hand a look at the talents the team acquired from the college level.
The Bears made eight selections in the 2014 NFL Draft and have managed to sign all of their draft selections. The Bears were the first team in the NFL to reach an agreement with each of their draft selections.
Beyond the draft selections, the Bears’ undrafted free agent signings will also participate in this weekend’s camp. Among the group of undrafted free agents, former Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch will be trying to catch on with the Bears as a running back.
Bears’ defensive coordinator Mel Tucker is also expected to speak for the first time sine last season ended. Tucker has been the subject of scrutiny, but Trestman has backed his defensive coordinator for at least another season.
While training camp does not start until July, there is some joy in the fact that Bears’ coaches and players are on the field once again.
