The baseball industry is beginning to take notice of Chicago Cubs’ top third base prospect Kris Bryant. Bryant is off to a stellar start with the Cubs’ double-A affiliate in Tennessee.
In 36 games with the Smokies this season, Bryant is hitting .331/.437/.624 to go along with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs.
Bryant’s hot start with the Smokies is beginning to create a daily following. Eventually, that following will start to ask the question of when Bryant will be promoted by the Cubs’ front office?
Now, it should clarified that the Cubs’ front office likely is not going to promote Bryant straight to the Major Leagues. Instead, Bryant’s next progression would be to the Iowa Cubs.
The problem is that the I-Cubs do not neccessarily have a spot for Bryant at the moment.
Christian Villanueva is the starting third baseman for the I-Cubs. While Villanueva has struggled in the first month and a half of the minor league season, the Cubs’ front office likely will not pull the trigger on Bryant’s promotion just yet.
The Cubs will likely hold off on promoting Bryant until they are able to build up Villanueva’s trade value. That would be why Villanueva needs to play everyday despite his struggles. That would also be why no promotion for Bryant is imminent.
