2014 NFL Draft: Chicago Bears Select Punter Pat O'Donnell

With the 191st overall selection in the NFL draft, the Bears selected punter Pat O’Donnell of the University of Miami.

A punter…really?

Typically, NFL teams can find a punter among college free agents and do not have to waste a draft pick on one. Though, if a NFL team is going to draft a punter, that selection would be made during the final two rounds of the draft.

Punter is actually a position of need for the Bears. Adam Podlesh struggled as the Bears’ punter last season and would often put opposing teams in favorable field position with botched punts.

O’Donnell could very well be the Bears’ punter for the 2014 season. O’Donnell has experience on kicks offs as well as a holder on field goals. O’Donnell also possesses the ability to punt in any weather condition.
