After a big loss, and a game in which the Chicago Blackhawks were dominated late, the team needs a strong performance in Game 4 if they want to keep their lead over the Minnesota Wild. In my opinion, the team needs one player in particular to step up and be a leader. This player already is the emotional leader, and has proven that he can be the leader on the ice as well. That player is the captain, Jonathan Toews.
Toews has done this before, be the spark for a Hawks team that seems down on their luck. It seems that he’s the guy that steps up before others, and tells everyone else to follow his lead. Guys like Andrew Shaw and Brandon Saad, who are both still very young, can be shaped and molded by the play of a true captain like Toews, and this makes his play big for his team in this game, and others moving forward.
While the team has enough offensive firepower to get past an off-game by Toews, the Wild are so good at home and are so skilled in general that the Hawks can’t guarantee being able to pick up his slack. Even more, his defensive contributions are something that the team desperately needs him to play up to his own standards in that regard as well.
While Game 4 isn’t really a must win game for the Hawks, it might be the stepping stone to bigger and better things, and the team needs their captain Jonathan Toews to have a big game and lead them to victory.
