With the 2o14 NFL Draft only a day away, many NFL and draft insiders are submitting their final mock drafts. Peter King of Sports Illustrated should be considered as royalty when it comes to being a NFL Insider. When King speaks, it would be in the best interest of NFL fans to listen.

King has released his mock draft. With the Chicago Bears 14th overall selection in the NFL Draft, King projects that the Bears will take strong safety Calvin Pryor of Louisville.

My bet is GM Phil Emery would have liked Aaron Donald a lot here, and he’d be happy to move down if a greedy team threw him a day two pick. The Bears need some secondary reconstruction, and Pryor could start it.

It should be noted that king has Donald going to the Minnesota Vikings with the 8th overall selection. The Bears have certainly been connected to Donald, but, the expectation now is that Donald will not make it out of the top 10.

Examining the Bears’ options at the 14 is interesting. Many fans feel as if the team needs to address the defensive line, but it could be argued that team has already done so. In the off-season, the Bears have added Jared Allen, Willie Young and Lamarr Houston while re-signing Jeremiah Ratliff and Nate Collins. Allen and Young will likely be defensive ends for the Bears while Houston will play his best position–on the interior of the defensive line–while pairing with Ratliff.

What the Bears need to do with their first round selection is address the secondary. Pryor is certainly a step in the right direction.
