Despite rumors of the Los Angeles Lakers being interested in his services, Chicago Bulls’ head coach Tom Thibodeau has given no indication that he is willing to leave the Bulls.
K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports that not only is Thibodeau already involved in making personnel decisions for next season, but the Bulls’ head coach is a strong part of the Bulls’ recruitment of Carmelo Anthony.
Sources said Thibodeau was involved last summer in planning discussions for the Bulls’ new practice facility scheduled to open in August or September. He also has been involved in personnel discussions regarding next season, with sources indicating he is a proponent of trying to add Carmelo Anthony.
Given that Anthony has spoken highly of Thibodeau, the coach would be an attractive recruiting piece if the Bulls remain serious in their pursuit of him if, as expected, he opts to become a free agent.
While plans can certainly change, it would appear that Thibodeau has little to no interest in being the head coach of the Lakers.
Though, there is something to be said about the fact that Thibodeau seems to be an annual candidate for major head coaching vacancies. While the trend is certainly getting annoying for Bulls fans, they should appreciate the fact that Thibodeau is highly regarded as a head coach in the NBA.
Thibodeau’s reputation may be one of the main reasons why Anthony wants to come to the Bulls. Anthony has always been fond of the Bulls’ head coach and that could lead to the Bulls landing their top off-season target this summer.
