NBA Free Agency Rumors: D.J. Augustin Wants To Return To The Bulls

The Chicago Bulls conducted their end of the year interviews on Wednesday at the Berto Center. This is often the time when members from the Bulls’ front office speak with players about their past season and about where they fit with the team going forward into next season.

D.J. Augustin, a free agent this summer, came away from his meeting with the Bulls’ front office with the feeling that the team wants him back for the 2014-2015 season.

“They told me that they wanted me back,” Augustin said after Wednesday’s team meetings. “And I really want to be back so we’ll see how everything works out.” -D.J. Augustin, ESPN Chicago

Augustin certainly did flourish under Bulls’ head coach Tom Thibodeau last season. Augustin averaged nearly 15 points per game while adding a scoring presence off the bench.

With Derrick Rose set to return next season, Augustin may not see as much playing time with the Bulls as he did this past season. That being said, the idea of having Rose and Augustin on the court at the same time would certainly appeal to a team that had the worst offense in the NBA last season.

Augustin has thought about, and is excited about, the idea of playing with Rose next season.

“He can create and he can get people open shots, and I can create and get people open shots, so I think it will be good for us as a team and each other,” Augustin said.- Augustin, ESPN Chicago

Augustin is certainly the type of player who would thrive on the court with Rose. Given his success under Thibodeau’s offense this past season, it may be in the Bulls’ best interest to hold on to the veteran point guard.
