New York Knicks President of Basketball Operations Phil Jackson wants all-star forward Carmelo Anthony to back up his words and take a hometown discount in the off-season in order to remain with the Knicks.
Does anyone see the irony of this?
Phil Jackson, the man who has never left a single dollar on the table, now wants his superstar to do just that. The only reason why the Knicks were believed to be ahead of the Chicago Bulls in the sweepstakes for Anthony is because they could offer the forward the most money.
But if Jackson is expecting Anthony to take a pay cut, then there would be no reason for Anthony to sign with the Knicks. Anthony would have to take a pay cut with the Bulls, though considering the roster makeup between the Bulls and Knicks, the free agent forward likely would be inclined to sign with Chicago as that would give him the best opportunity to win.
