On Wednesday, the NFL released the 2014 schedules for every team. After looking at the Bears’ schedule, there will be a lot of familiar faces on the opponents’ side.
On September 28 and November 9, the Bears will face their former defensive end Julius Peppers, now with the hated Green Bay Packers. On October 5, they will face Greg Olsen, now of the Carolina Panthers. Kick returner Devin Hester and guard Gabe Carimi, now with the Atlanta Falcons, will host the Bears on October 12. Vikings defensive end Corey Wootton will face his former Bears teammates on November 16 and December 28. Quarterback Josh McCown and safety Major Wright will come to Chicago on November 23. The Bears will host the Dallas Cowboys and Henry Melton on December 4.
The game against the Buccaneers will also bring back head coach Lovie Smith, who coached the Bears for nine season until his firing after the 2012 season. His staff also has seven assistants that worked with him in Chicago as well.
Other former Bears coaches now facing their former employers are Mike Tice, now the offensive line coach with the Falcons, and Rod Marinelli, now the Cowboys defensive coordinator.
In addition, the Bears will also face three former players who are now head coaches. On September 14 they face Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers, the October 5 game against the Panthers will be against head coach Ron Rivera, and on December 15 will be against head coach Sean Payton. One other former player, Leslie Frazier, will be the defensive coordinator in that Buccaneers game.
Hopefully, the Bears can see some old friends on their way to a title run this season. It would be nice to have them see what they are missing in Chicago.
