Chicago Cubs Minor League Recap: Javier Baez Homers On Sunday


After allowing his frustrations to boil over in the Iowa Cubs game on Saturday, Chicago Cubs top prospect Javier Baez bounced back on Sunday.

Baez as well as all the other performances from the Cubs’ Minor League affiliates will be the focus yet again of this Minor League recap.

Iowa Cubs 4, Memphis Redbirds 3

  • Javier Baez did not start the game for the I-Cubs but did make a pinch hit appearance in Sunday’s game. Baez hit a pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning of the I-Cubs’ game on Sunday. The home run marked Baez’s first hit on the triple-A level.
  • Josh Vitters had a productive day on Sunday. Vitters went 3-for-4 against the Redbirds on Sunday with a double and a RBI.
  • Former top prospect Brett Jackson was 0-for-4 on Sunday for the I-Cubs. Jackson is without a hit in his first 12 at bats this season.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos 3, Tennessee Smokies 2

  • Smokies first baseman Dustin Geiger had a productive day on Sunday. Geiger went 2-for-3 against the Blue Wahoos on Sunday with a home run.

Quad Cities River Bandits 7, Kansas City Cougars 3

  • The Cougars continue to struggle on offense as the team was 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position on Sunday while leaving 8 runners on base.
